James Malinga started in April 2005, he came across an abandoned
child called Rose in the streets of Kampala, he was touched as
Rose seemed to have no future at all.

encounter was a turning point for James; he began helping Rose and
developed a vision for the children of Uganda.

DEFINING
VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Vulnerable
children will include:
q
Vulnerable
children:
defined as those children who may not necessarily be orphans but
are assessed by an agreed upon set of objective measures to be in
need of external assistance from the public and/or private
sector.
q
Orphans:
defined as children less than 18 years, who have lost either one
or both biological or foster/adoptive parents
q
Pre-orphans:
children whose parents are chronically ill. These children are
even more vulnerable than orphans, because they are coping with
the psychosocial burden of watching
a parent wither
and the economic burdens of reduced productivity and income and
increased health care expenses.
VISION
We
have a vision of bringing lasting, and a positive change to the
young children and the community they live in.
MISSION
Our
mission is to make a real, lasting difference to the lives of
children through provision of education, care and surrounding them
with Gods love.
CORE
VALUES
We
are committed Christians
willing to serve Christ through children.
We
are committed to help children:
Jesus
identified himself with the poor, powerless, the afflicted, the
oppressed and the marginalized.
We
are trustworthy:
The
resources at our disposal are a trust from God through our donors
on behalf of the young children, we are open in our dealings with
donors and the public at large, we demand high standards of
competence and financial accountability.
Today
in Uganda you can hardly walk one kilometer without coming across
an orphan or an abandoned child, An estimated 52%(12.8 million) of
Uganda’s population are children aged less than 18 years of
which an estimated 18.2%(not less than 2million) of the children
are orphans. This number is expected to increase given the
prevailing poverty and HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The
number of orphans and other vulnerable children and the negative
impact of HIV/AIDS on children is continuing to increase in the
district. A large and growing number of children are experiencing
the trauma and distress of losing their parents and are being
forced to fend for themselves here in Mpigi district. In the
absence of adult protection, love and support for these children
have been made even more vulnerable to illness, exploitation and
abuse, and to HIV infection, illness, malnutrition and death among
young children are on the rise, school participation is declining,
and the number of street children are growing.
The
Christian and humanitarian imperative, which under-girds every
thing Mountain of hope does compel us to respond in the face of
such pain and suffering.
Investing
in Orphans and vulnerable children is investing in the future
strength and security of communities and countries.
Care
for them is a powerful ground for initiating HIV/AIDS responses in
communities.
OBJECTIVES
To
offer formal education by paying for their school fees and other
scholastic materials like school uniforms, books, we believe that
education is one of the fundamentals of success and a key to a
better and bright future.
To
set up a community clinic with a qualified doctor and nurse to
administer effective treatment to all our children and the
community at large.
Since
most of our children live with HIV we intend to provide counseling
services to train them how to cope with stress, to embrace
positive change and to have high self esteem.
To
teach children Christian values since we are based on a strong
Christian foundation.
Children
will have a choir in order to help raise funds to help other
street children, the choir will be named “hard mountain”
to symbolize the hard life a typical African child goes through
from child hood, it will also help in spreading the gospel to
change the lives of the suffering children through spreading a
message of hope through music.
“Hard
mountain” will record their songs from a studio which will
be available for sale.
To
acquire 20 hectares of land in Mpigi town , we have a plan in
place to construct a family for those in our care.
600
children will be living in this family and so we plan to construct
forty ( 40) houses, each accommodating fifteen (15 ) children with
two (2) mothers in each house to look after them.
These
mothers will perform some of the following tasks:
q
Protecting the children from all forms of abuse
q
Ensure the well being by ensuring that they have food and access
health services.
q
Provide counseling both spiritual and physical to them.
To
set up a primary, secondary and vocational schools to provide
formal education for our children without the need for long daily
journeys to school.
A
vocational school will be set up to teach practical skills such as
tailoring, carpentry, art and crafts, plumbing, brick laying and
many others so as to help them be job creators in future.
Guiding
principles for working with the vulnerable children:
q
The best interests of the child should always be put first.
q
Children’s rights to decide for themselves should be
respected at all times
q
Children’s sero-status should be kept in maximum
confidentiality
q
Children should participate in an environment where they feel
safe with their own peers so that they do not feel so threatened
or used.
